NYMPHÉAS : Les Femmes Émergentes – In Conversation with Monet

Nymphéas : Les Femmes Émergentes is a solo exhibition by South African artist Cornè Theron, marking her first solo presentation in South Africa since receiving a French Government Talent Passport in 2019. On view from 9 January to 7 February 2026 at 33BREE, the exhibition unfolds as a poetic homecoming.

Through oil paintings and mixed-media works, Theron reflects on femininity, lineage, and memory—drawing inspiration from the women who shaped her life and from childhood memories of her grandmother’s lily pond on a Free State farm. Water emerges as both subject and archive: a space where memory, care, and resilience quietly reside.

Her distinctive pixelated visual language lends a contemporary rhythm to these reflections, echoing how perception fragments and reforms over time. In subtle dialogue with the water-lily paintings of Claude Monet, the exhibition meditates on vision, abstraction, and endurance.

Nymphéas invites viewers into a contemplative space where women, water, and memory converge—offering a resonant return and a re-rooting of an internationally engaged practice in South African soil.
